A N N O U N C E M E N T Fairfax launches mycareer.com.au, its 2nd ‘supersite’ New employment supersite gives Australians a smarter way to get ahead SYDNEY, Australia, July 26, 1999 – Following the huge success of its first ‘supersite’, drive.com.au, John Fairfax Holdings Limited [ASX:FXJ] today announced that its new employment ‘supersite’, mycareer.com.au, is live and gives people an edge in their careers. The site contains 15,000 listings of jobs available nationwide, as well as comprehensive fact sheets, articles and tools designed to help people manage their career, whether embarking on a first job, seeking a change, or firmly establishing themselves in their chosen profession. Nigel Dews, Director, Interactive Businesses for Fairfax, said, "Today’s announcement of mycareer.com.au is an additional milestone in Fairfax’s leadership in online and interactive commerce and services. Our expert editorial content and commitment to providing the best online resources for Australians, whether it is career-related, news, financial, automotive or commercial, mean that consumers have one family of sites they can trust for nearly all their online needs." Recent research suggests the demand for online jobs databases such as the mycareer.com.au job search facility, is growing at a rapid pace. Studies show that 84 percent of professionals working in Australia have accessed the Internet (Roy Morgan, December 1998), many of them using the Internet regularly for business and pleasure. Additionally, employers and employment agencies are increasingly using the Internet for recruitment purposes. Forrester Research (USA) predicts that online advertising by Employment Agencies will grow from $105 million in 1998 to $1.7 billion in 2003. According to Mr Dews, "People tend to get ahead in their careers because they have some knowledge that others don’t – knowledge of an open position, knowledge about a new company or industry, or knowledge about how to interview, network or gain new skills. With the launch of mycareer.com.au, people wanting to manage their career or find a job, now have access to more career-related knowledge than ever before in one easy-to-navigate supersite. As the employment market becomes more competitive and Internet use continues to rise at a rapid pace, Fairfax is committed to making mycareer.com.au the premiere online destination for career-related research in Australia." Visitors to mycareer.com.au will find a comprehensive selection of job search and employment tools, in addition to members’ benefits and services that can be easily tailored to suit individual needs. Members can fill in a search profile outlining their areas of interest, which allows them to receive Job Alert emails when relevant new jobs become available on the site. Members
can also enable their anonymous profile to be viewed by participating
recruitment agencies, who can then target the candidate for appropriate
positions without compromising that person’s privacy. Shortly after
launch, free email accounts will also be available to members, so
they can use a private and independent account to send and receive
their employment-related correspondence. According to Robyn Morisset, chief executive of AHRI, "Our 15,000 members in the human resources field are increasingly looking to find the most effective and efficient way to recruit the right people into their organisations. The mycareer.com.au site is an exciting new addition to the competitive Internet recruitment arena. AHRI is pleased to have provided mycareer.com.au with leading edge HR information for recruiters and employees. I urge people looking for a career move to visit this site!" Searching for relevant content on mycareer.com.au is easy. Members are asked to identify themselves from the full-time, part-time, management or employer categories so the most relevant fact sheets and articles can be provided. These articles have been divided into four sections:

mycareer.com.au builds upon the depth of experience in online employment offerings that Fairfax has gained with its I.T.Jobs site (www.itjobs.fairfax.com.au) and the employment section of Fairfax@Market (www.market.fairfax.com.au). The employment section of Fairfax@Market, which currently attracts 110,000 searches per week, will be replaced completely by mycareer.com.au. Anyone currently registered with Fairfax@Market will be transferred to mycareer.com.au and will receive an email asking them to update their profile in order to take advantage of the expanded offerings the new site will provide. Fairfax has also re-launched its I.T.Jobs site (www.itjobs.fairfax.com.au) with a new look and increased functionality. The site was originally launched in August 1998 and since then has established itself as one of the leading specialist employment sites for Australian IT professionals.
