New distribution partnership announced

20 Apr 2011

Fairfax Media NZ has announced a move to CourierPost and Netlink to provide distribution and delivery services for their Sunday newspapers and magazines from 1 July 2011.

At the same time, Fairfax Sunday newspapers will change their in-house operation, directly managing their own allocation and invoicing.

CourierPost transport network will distribute all of the Fairfax Sunday papers nationwide to more than 5000 retail outlets throughout the country from 1 July. This will provide an improved distribution network for the Sunday Star Times and the Sunday News.

Netlink will assume all magazine circulation and distribution services for the Fairfax magazine portfolio which includes The TV Guide, NZ Gardener, Cuisine, NZ House & Garden and NZ Life & Leisure.

General Manager of Printing & Distribution for Fairfax NZ, Danny Trainor says the partnership will provide the consistent distribution network required to shift large volumes of newspapers and magazines on time.

“We are confident in the technological capabilities, the experience, and the nationwide footprint of these distribution and delivery companies,” he says. “The changes we have made to Fairfax Media’s distribution network will provide significant business efficiencies for us and open up new opportunities for all the parties involved – Netlink, CourierPost and its drivers around the country.”

Lynley Belton, General Manager of Fairfax Magazines wants to recognise the partnership that Fairfax, Gordon & Gotch and their wider team, have had over a number of years. While this move is positive, it is tinged with a little sadness over the ending of such a long standing business relationship.

The move is an exciting development to work with both Netlink and CourierPost. It will mean an expansion of their distribution services with the print media industry that will open up additional revenue opportunities for CourierPost’s contractors. From July, CourierPost will also introduce the scanning of deliveries for magazines.
